AKRON, OH — The Akron Police Department is actively investigating the homicide of 32-year-old Andrew J. Cassell, who was found shot to death on July 2, 2025, at a residence in the 90 block of Kent Court. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office and Akron police are working together to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident, which has left the community reeling.
On the evening of July 2, at approximately 7:16 p.m., Akron police responded to a 911 call reporting a burglary at a home on Kent Court. The caller reported an unknown man passed out inside the residence. Upon arrival, officers discovered Cassell, a Uniontown resident, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:32 p.m. A handgun and several shell casings were recovered from the scene, and detectives from the Crime Scene Unit and Major Crimes Unit are analyzing evidence to piece together the events leading to Cassell’s death.
The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled Cassell’s death a homicide, caused by gunshot wounds. The investigation remains ongoing, with no arrests made at this time.
